Live Edge Techniques
We only use kiln-dried live edge slabs under 9% Equilibrium Moisture Content to assure the best long-term quality of our furniture.
As an additional precaution against cupping / bowing of large slabs, we install router embedded C-Channel metal stabilizer bars (shown left).
Powder coated wood screws with loose-fitting washers are placed into oversized pilot holes to allow the stabilizers to shift over time without causing warpage.
We use the same anchoring technique for our powder coated metal legs, which have wide, 4” mounting plates to further stabilize the table near each end.
These techniques take more time during the build process but we believe it is a wise investment. Unlike processed veneer furniture, live edge wood is more dense and absorbs / repels moisture at a higher rate - much like our own breathing.
And so, we let her “breath.”
